I posted a dream I call the Amber Glory of God under Watchman Dreams Archives. Amber Glory of God – Believe Miracles Are for Today (believemiraclesr42day.com) This post was a result of ten months of prayer to understand the gift of oil given to me in that dream. If you haven’t read the dream, please do so as this article will make more sense.
In a nutshell, at the end of the dream a heavenly being (an angel or the Holy Spirit) had left me two gifts. One of which was a huge golden pitcher of amber colored fragrant oil. I understood the color to mean ‘the glory of God’ but not much else. For ten months I wondered what to do with the oil, until I asked the Lord a few nights ago what the name of it was.
Interesting that in the dream the heavenly being was waiting for me as I was waiting for her! In other words, it took me ten months to ask (symbolized by the waiting Gift Giver) what was the name of the oil. As soon as I asked, I received an answer. The Lord said it was Spikenard! I have never heard of that, so I did some research.
“Spikenard was an expensive perfume mentioned in the Song of Solomon (1:12; 4:13–14) and in the gospels’ accounts of women anointing Jesus (Mark 14:3; John 12:3). The word spikenard is found in the King James Version; other translations simply say “pure nard.” What is spikenard in the Bible? | GotQuestions.org
“How costly was this litra of spikenard Mary used to anoint Jesus' feet? One denarius was the wage for one day's labor, so if Judas' estimate of the value of Mary's spikenard is correct, "three hundred denarii" would have been someone's annual salary, equivalent to several tens of thousands of dollars today. The litra of spikenard Mary used was indeed "very costly". SPIKENARD - The Costly Oil of Spikenard in The Bible (bibleversestudy.com)
“Why did Mary use pure nard instead of the myriad other plant oils available to her? Why did she use it for anointing Jesus? This speaks to how prized spikenard ointment was in Biblical times. What is now present-day Israel is thousands of miles from where spikenard grows native. It was because of the Silk Road (the original global economy), that this prized oil was available to Mary.” Spikenard Oil: Why this Plant is Making a Comeback | All-Natural Ideas
The actual color of Spikenard is amber as in my dream! Besides having great biblical value, Spikenard has numerous medicinal benefits as an essential oil, too many to name here. Needless to say, I bought some at $65 for .5 ml…quite a costly oil still today.
I asked God what am I to do with this oil. I then realized just accept it, it is the gift of God from Ecclesiastes 3. It is also a precious costly gift, and gifts are to be shared which is what I am to do with this oil. But how? If I am to share it, perhaps it will run out? Then I got scriptures.
“For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’” (1 Kings 17:14).
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38).
To me, the 1 Kings verse says that the gift of oil (and the food in the dream) won’t run out until rain comes. And what does rain symbolize? REVIVAL! In addition, I believe Spikenard is the Oil of Joy from Isaiah 61:3 “To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…” I want to bathe in the Oil of Spikenard, aka the Oil of Joy!
Here is why I have confidence that the oil used to anoint Jesus before His crucifixion was the Oil of Joy. Because when I asked the Lord, I heard:” For the joy that was set before Him endured the cross.” That is Hebrews 12:2: “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Think about it. Mary anointed Jesus with Spikenard BEFORE He went to the cross…so He experienced the joy that was set before Him (as Hebrews 12:2 proclaims). And we as well will receive because we are partakers in His suffering and thus, in His joy. Subsequently, the scripture addresses lead me to believe that the oil of Spikenard is the Oil of Joy.
On a side note, my sister Wendy said the oil smelled a little like dirty feet. I have also read online reviews that have said the same. Funny, but what if God wants it to smell of feet because it was the oil that anointed Jesus’s feet? I wonder if the Lord did that on purpose to remind us of His sacrifice - the smell! I think He did.
“And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.” (1 John 1:4).
