In March 2025, I had settled in assuming that my affliction is what I will have to carry the rest of my life. It is an irreconcilable thought for me because I know my Savior can remove it and make me strong again. And secondly, for 10 years, I have received dreams, scriptures and prophetic words that spoke of it being removed'.
Saying: “I will be healed”. Yet, doubts daily haunt me that I have not heard the word correctly and neither have those who have prayed for me. Not that God is a liar, but that I have misconstrued what He has said because I so desperately want healing.
I had decided that God is not going to deliver me and then I had the following dream. I will break it up into two parts for easier interpretation. Here is part one.
I was at the top of a mountain. It was brown, dry and there was a home at the top. The property had Bougainvillea living on it. The long vines had thorns and spikes hidden between delicate paper-like blooms.
It was told to me by a ‘Fire’ professional that the Bougainvillea was a fire hazard. It had to be removed because it was fire season; needed to be gotten rid of. I remember the brilliant dark pink of the flowers but all else was tan and brown even the house.
I didn’t remove the plant. I merely noticed everything, heard the Voice and started down the mountain.
With prayer, I received Isaiah 48:10: Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace (fire season) of affliction.
Since this was the first scene of the dream, let’s look at the symbols. In the second half of the dream, I will pull it all together, but for now it’s enough to look at the symbolism and the colors.
A mountain is exalted. Also, an obstacle; difficulty; challenge in one’s life. My affliction. Yet, it is a solitary place where one meets God.
A vine is a source or people: Christ; the flesh; entanglement; or snare. Thorns on the vine indicate afflictions; worries; trials; life’s cares choking our faith; curse; Christ’s suffering for our sins. Irritant; irritated.
The flowers on the Bougainvillea signifies man’s glory of the flesh that is passing away, an offering for the glory of God. In the dream (and I did not know this), I was told that the Bougainvillea was a fire hazard even while being drought tolerant. “Bougainvillea is regarded as highly flammable.” Reduce fire danger by eliminating highly flammable plants.
Fire: a raging problem in one’s life; God’s presence; trials or persecution; a burning fervency for God or something good or bad depending on the context; a strong emotion; a strong longing; an aching to do or see something. Holy Spirit fire burning away the junk in us.” A to Z Christian Dream Symbol Dictionary.
Now, the colors. Pink is female, also the flesh. In addition, moral (as in “a heart of flesh”); chaste.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26.
Bougainvillea is hot pink with thorns. Pink means flesh and hot pink would be a hot matter or burning, inflamed matter. After prayer the Lord spoke: “Bougainvillea represents a thorn in my flesh” like the Apostle Paul had. That thorn, my affliction needs to be removed. Its flammable and burns in my soul. It needs to go.
2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me…
They surrounded me about like bees; they are quenched as the fire of thorns: for in the name of the Lord I will destroy them. Psalm 118:12.
Brown/Tan represents – dead (as dead grass is brown): repentant; born again; humble; without spirit… fire season! It was fire season for my flesh, my soul. Bleak. Living on a mountain top can also be lonely.
Incredibly, the same morning of the dream a ‘fire professional’ (retired fireman friend) sent me an email with the same scripture titled Chosen for Affliction – Isaiah 48:10: Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
My beloved mentor advised me of the dream: “The mountain is your struggle, your life. The house is where you’ve lived doing your ministry, the pink flowers your prayers and outreach, the thorns your illness. And all day yesterday I heard Isaiah 56:6, 7 And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to him, to live the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the name of the Lord without desecrating it, and who hold fast to my covenant - these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
The dream seems pretty miserable because I have become drought tolerant. But good news there is more!
