This story on the gift of healing I’ve included is from a brother and co-laborer in Christ, Ralph Haynes.  It is from his new book, “The Book of Miracles” recently released and highlighted on this site’s Home Page (The Library).  It is filled with miracles as experienced by this SDFD Fire Captain and man of God.  The Book of Miracles – Believe Miracles Are for Today (believemiraclesr42day.com).  Here is his story:

While writing this particular story, it occurred to me that most of the injuries to my hands have been to my left hand. This happened to me early in my career as a fireman with the City of San Diego Fire Department.  I was working out of Station 19. It was a medical aid incident on a non-breathing patient. After doing everything that we possibly could do, the paramedics called the base hospital to obtain an order for us to cease our lifesaving efforts. The victim was unable to be revived.

After cleaning up the area and covering up the deceased patient, one of the paramedics asked me to reach into the paper bag of medical waste to retrieve something. I blindly reached into the bag with my hand and was immediately stuck by one of the needles that was used on the patient. I quickly pulled my hand out of the bag. The needle was hanging from my hand.  I yanked the needle out of my hand and angrily threw it back into the brown paper bag. After reporting the minor injury and completing the reports, I began to worry.

I was somewhat of a new Christian at the time. I should have been praying instead of worrying. I just didn’t know that back then. To make a long story shorter, my hand became severely infected. It was all discolored, with a nasty, stinky, bloody and pus-like discharge. I continued to work, keeping my hand bandaged at all times. My mind was constantly racing with worry. At one point, I thought I was going to lose my hand. It was bad!

Then one evening, I was at a church service. There was a visiting speaker. After the speaker finished speaking, he called for people, who wanted prayer, to come to the altar. Here is the first incredible part of this story.  As I tried to stand up and go to the altar, I felt some unknown force holding me in my seat. I tried and tried to get up but could not move. I tried asking for help but was unable to speak. As I struggled there in my chair, watching others go forward for prayer, the church service ended with the benediction.  Still unable to move, I watched as everyone began to leave the church building.

After finally being released from my seat by whatever it was that was holding me down, I jumped up and ran to catch the guest speaker before he exited out the back door. As I told him the story of what happened to me, I removed the blood and pus-soaked bandage from my grossly infected hand. The man of God then placed his hands, one on top of my hand and the other underneath my hand and began to pray for healing. When he stopped praying and released my hand, my hand was completely healed.

Only God can do things like this. You just can’t make this stuff up. To God Be the Glory.
