“Prophetic prayer has been used by God’s Generals in the past. Revelatory prayer is one of the weapons waiting to be used by God’s Generals and His growing Global Prayer Army today.

“Revelatory prayer is one of the most common expressions of the prophetic spirit and is often referred to as “prophetic intercession. These are God-directed prayers, not preaching or exhortation.  Inspired by God and directed back to Him, they make it possible for you to pray effectively and according to God’s will.

On your own, you cannot come up with prayers that hit the mark so accurately. Since these prayers are inspired by the Spirit of God, they express the desires of His heart back to Him. Often, they express much more than you could have understood in the natural (on your own) about a given matter. The Holy Spirit leads you by the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to pray for people, events, and at times, even crisis circumstances, in a manner that only He can guide and direct.” The Power of Prophetic Intercession - by James W. Goll

In any intercessory assignment, all nine gifts of the Holy Spirit can be used and comingled by God.  From my experience, the primary gifts that are used are: the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, discerning of spirits, tongues and prophecy.

Knowing that wisdom and revelation are used in prophetic intercession foremost, there are additional sets of gifts which are combined during intercession.  Revelation Gifts; Power Gifts and Utterance Gifts. Topical Index for Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

  • Revelation Gifts are Word of Wisdom; Word of Knowledge and Discerning of Spirits.
  • Power Gifts are the Gift of Faith, Working of Miracles and of Healings.
  • Utterance Gifts are Prophecy, Divers Kinds of Tongues and the Interpretation of Tongues.

We will start with the Word of Wisdom which is greatly used in intercession.  This gift comes through prayer and waiting to be used as a tool in prayer.  In zeal, seek and ask for wisdom in all its forms first.  The wisdom spoken of in Proverbs 2:1-11 and Proverbs 3:1-26 And the wisdom God will give to each of us liberally if we ask: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.

Through humbly seeking, I believe God will open up wisdom in all its forms including the Word of Wisdom.  The gift of the Word of Wisdom is the application of knowledge that God gives you to pray (I Corinthians 2:6-7). This type of wisdom is a gift which cannot be gained through study or experience. The gift of the Word of Wisdom is seeing life from God's perspective to pray His heart for the subject.

So, give your servant a discerning heart…The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.  So, God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart…1 Kings 3:9-12.

The gift of the Word of Wisdom is also the revealing of a prophetic future; it is revelation of hidden truths to what is not known. It is a supernatural perspective to ascertain the divine means for accomplishing God's will in a given situation and is a divinely given power to appropriate spiritual direction.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  Ephesians 5:15-16.

It is the supernatural impartation of facts; it is not natural. It is received from God through prayer, visions or dreams; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.  Ephesians 1:17.

“Specifically, the Word of Wisdom is a gift that is designed to enable those who receive it to know things that would otherwise not be known to them. This gift manifests itself as a supernatural impartation of future knowledge.”  From: The Word of Wisdom | Discover What It Is, Its Purpose, and How to Activate It (curtlandry.com)
