“True prophets are called to wear a mantle that cannot be removed. A prophet is a prophet 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for every year of his life! His body—and all he is—is given to the Lord, a living sacrifice that is his spiritual service of worship (see Romans 12:1)” … Elijah Among Us.

I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Romans 12:1.

I thought I would feature two powerful books written by a prophet team that I read in my formative years.  John and Paula Sanford’s wisdom and truth in these books are well worth reading if you have a prophet’s call upon your life.

No one by deciding, or wishing it so, can become a prophet. The corps of prophets is not an open club. One cannot pay dues or take training or just desire intensely to become a prophet. There is no membership roll, as in a church. One cannot inherit the prophet’s mantle. It cannot be given by one person to another, though an individual can be the Lord’s instrument for such. Hours of prayer, diligence in intercession, seeking the gifts of the Spirit—none of these will make a person a prophet. There is no way an individual can become a prophet by the flesh.

For many are called, but few are chosen. —Matthew 22:14

An individual cannot become a prophet unless God calls, but also, he may become a prophet only by responding in obedience when He calls, as He calls, and in confirmed recognition within the body of Christ. Then he will be trained, and his training is like no other! It will probably take no less than a dozen years. St. Paul underwent at least fourteen years of discipline and training (Gal. 2:1).

Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along with me. Gal. 2:1.

Since the obedience of Ezekiel, the office of the prophet has been dramatically altered. Now, every prophet’s calling includes becoming a burden-bearer. Few prophets, fewer Christians and almost none of the general public know that as yet.” (Hosea 4:6).

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6a.

Today’s prophets call the people forward into whatever new thing God is directing… And He answered and said, “Elijah is coming and will restore all things.” Matthew 17:11. Father God purposes for Elijah prophets to be major players in restoring all things and presenting them as gifts to His Son. Turning the hearts of fathers and children to each other is crucial to that task and is the special province of Elijah prophets. I believe every prophet alive today is called to be an Elijah prophet. Whatever else we are called to be and do, we are Elijahs. We are to walk in the spirit and power of Elijah.
