I want to share an event that transpired recently because it was an exercise in the “interactive” hearing of God’s voice (aka a dance with Jesus). It began because someone from my old church contacted me through my husband. They were reading my book and had questions for me. I knew of this person as one in leadership at the church, but we had no personal relationship.
Now, for a little history. This same person contacted my hubby two months prior to find out how to get a copy of my book. We sent him this website for direction on ordering a copy. Because he was associated with the old church, I asked God for His view on the situation. The Lord responded with a scripture address and the actual name of the person (who wanted my book) written next to the verse from 2008! I won’t mention the verse however, it was a ‘telling’ scripture.
I knew God was speaking because that person’s name is only written one time in my bible, and it was written over thirteen years ago (I had no recollection of ever writing the name in my bible). Pretty miraculous, but what was the Lord saying?
In any event, I was happy to hear from the person, but then I got a nudge in my spirit to pray before moving forward with any interaction. I told my husband that I had to find out what the Lord wanted me to do. So, I took the request to prayer that same day.
During prayer, I received four scripture addresses that all related to my former church. However, I thought I was simply remembering the old church verses and God was not speaking. Then I heard “Stand Your Ground” and remembered where I had heard that before. It was from the Prophets Robe Dream (circa 2013).
In frustration, I left my prayer closet after one hour of trying to hear Him speak for a decision. I wanted the Lord to tell me “Yes” or “No” regarding contact with this person. I was at my bathroom sink and said out loud “There is no way that I’m going to meet with that person, I just don’t want to do it.” At last, God spoke: “I DIDNT ASK YOU TO!” I laughed and said “Okay, then we’re on the same page! But I’ll give You two more days to say anything more.” He did a day later in the form of a dream.
I have tended to forget that I have free will. I know that sounds silly, but I’ve always done anything the Lord has asked of me. I have done that because my spiritual mentor told me many years ago that if told the Lord “No”, then He would send someone else. So, when I made that proclamation of what I wanted (or didn’t want to do), God responded in kind, and I was amazed at His response.
The next morning, I received a dream which foretold the underlying reason for God excusing me from any further communication with the inquiring person. I have recorded it under Finish the Job ~ My Old Church, The Library called, Stop the Pain.

I believe my interface with the Lord proves the point I was trying to make in my post “Was That You, Lord? A Time and A Place”, dated October 22. Here is an excerpt:
“It’s important to give time to God to learn how to discern His voice, however if I am striving to hear Him and I keep asking and waiting, sometimes it’s good just to pack up and move on with daily affairs. I have found if God wants to speak, He will speak. If I try to hear God’s voice too hard the enemy can come in and lie to me.
There’s a fine balance we walk desiring to hear the Lord’s voice. If He doesn’t speak or confirm what we believe He has said right away, then leave Him alone. God will speak soon enough. He’s heard the question. I have to give Him time to respond.”
I hope you can see the humor in my dance with Jesus in trying to find His will in this situation. I think He likes to lighten things up when I can’t see through the quagmire. Be of good cheer, God is near!
