Time.  We exist in His world and His time.  Our time is not our own if we are His children, it’s His time.  So, it is only fair that we ask the Lord how much time does He want from us to hear His voice.  Let Him tell you how much time you need to give Him.  In addition, what time of the day?  Do not be a coward when He tells you what He wants- it’s His dime and His time!

Then, there is the place where you are to meet.  Again, get God’s input.  When the Lord impresses on your mind of a place, think how you can make it a sanctuary for you and God.  He will lead you; I am sure.  Really, He picked the place, but He is gracious enough to let us think that we’ve picked the place!

Then there will be the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide. There you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings (prayers), your sacrifices (your obedience) …and all your choice offerings (your life) which you vow to the Lord.  (Deuteronomy 12:11).

When I was a working woman, I had a prayer time in the early morning hours.  Because I was so busy, the Lord would also speak to me in odd locations.  I spent a lot of time in my car driving, His voice was very active in my car.  In addition, He used to talk to me when I washed my hair in our garage sink!  I’m not kidding, I received numerous words from the Lord at that sink.  A holy place is where God speaks, and He makes it holy with His voice and presence- it’s His choice!

It’s up to us to ask Him where that place is and when to meet Him there.  The Lord will be consistent if I will be consistent.  It’s important to give time to God to learn how to discern His voice, however if I am striving to hear Him and I keep asking and waiting, sometimes it’s good just to pack up and move on with daily affairs.  I have found if God wants to speak, He will speak.  If I try to hear God’s voice too hard the enemy can come in and lie to me.

Nevertheless, while you are in the time and place of God’s choosing with your armor on, know that you will hear His voice and not the enemy’s.  In that you can trust.

There’s a fine balance we walk desiring to hear the Lord’s voice.  If He doesn’t speak or confirm what we believe He has said right away, then leave Him alone.  God will speak soon enough.  He’s heard the question.  I have to give Him time to respond.  I have made an appointment with the King of Heaven.  I am to wait for Him to show up!

Once you leave your prayer place, don’t assume it’s over.  God is working out when He will answer you (if you didn’t hear Him answer during your time).  Put your God antenna up to receive throughout the day and be ready to be surprised by His Spirit.  He will give you wonderful encounters to build your faith.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  (Matthew 6:33).

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.  (Jeremiah 29:13).

I hear the Lord saying, “If you listen with your whole heart, I will open the windows of Heaven to you.” Don’t be surprised if He asks you to remove your shoes while in your secret place, for the ground you stand on is holy!  Then the Commander of the Lord’s army said to Joshua, “Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.” And Joshua did so.  (Joshua 5:15).

PRACTICE POINT:  Ask the Lord what time and place do You want to meet?  Write down His answer in your notebook (journal) and prepare for your rendezvous!

BONUS POINT:  Ask God to confirm the meeting time and place however He wants to confirm it.  When God gives you His approval, write the confirmation in your journal for future reference.
