As believers, we know God speaks. It is in His word (the Bible) in all forms. He spoke the world into existence. Jesus is the Word of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14).
The Lord spoke to His children throughout the Bible and not only to His children but also, to the unbelieving. He speaks through His creation, nature. The question is not whether or not God speaks today, we know He does.
The question is how to discern His voice and how do we know He is speaking to us individually. That is the topic for this series. Over the next month or so, I want to provide guidance on hearing personally for ourselves. Perhaps in the future, I will conquer the subject of hearing things from God for other people. But that is another ballgame!
I want to lay the groundwork for this subject stepping-stone by stepping-stone and through practice. I sense God is not in a hurry and will teach us through a meandering gentle pathway while we ask Him, ‘Was that You, Lord?’ The Lord has promised to build a history of hearing through a legacy of listening from this instruction.
He awakens Me morning by morning; He awakens My ear to hear as the learned. The Lord God has opened My ear; and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away. (Isaiah 50:4b-5).
If you would like to participate in this journey, the tools you will need are your faith, a Bible, a pen and a notebook. In the next post, we will look at the significance of the tools. At the end of each session, I will give homework so to speak. I call them Practice Points. I hope you will take the journey with me. I think it will be well worth your time.
PRACTICE POINT: Your first Practice Point is to ask the Lord a question. Do You want me to participate in this series? Write down His answer in your notebook (journal) and date it.
