As we come closer to a conclusion on this hearing God series, I want to stress to have fun with the Lord in your time of hearing Him.  A habit of mine is being too serious because of the things I have a tendency to hear God say but I know He’s telling me because I want to listen.

Yes, I have a history of hearing, but I had to start somewhere, and I started by asking God questions.  I want to be the Lord’s friend, so I ask Him, “What do you think about that (whatever subject I’m curious about), God?"  And I wait for His answer. That is how I started.

The Lord’s world continues on without me, I am as a vapor…a shadow passing through.  As such, I remember that I am blessed to be a confidant of His.  Also, I have learned that I don’t need to do anything about what He shares with me unless He instructs me otherwise.  A friend once told me I hear because I want to hear, and I am willing and obedient to take down the information.

Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as nothing before You; certainly, every man at his best state is but vapor.  Surely every man walks about like a shadow… (Psalm 39:5-6a).

Many friends have asked what to do with the information that the Lord has shared with them in the secret place of their prayer space.  My response is that if God did not specify what to do with the information; then use it to intercede for the situation or simply, agree with Him.  He might be giving you a heavenly FYI!  If, more action is required of you, then He will make it clear.  Either way, record what God has shared with you in your Book of Remembrance as you never know when He may want to use it in the future.

What I tell you in the darkness, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim on the housetops.  (Matthew 10:27).

This is where the cultivation of listening comes in, the legacy I talked about before.  God whispers His secrets to us because I believe the Lord wants friends that will listen to Him.  He wants faithful confidants that He can trust with His feelings.  Will you be one of those friends without asking anything in return?  I pray the Lord ignites in you a passion for His voice and His secrets.

You are my friends if you do what I command.  I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.  (John 15:14-15).

PRACTICE POINT:  Are you willing to be the Lord’s confidant?  If so, tell Him and ask Him to start sharing His Heart and His secrets with you.  Record your encounters.

BONUS POINT:  Listen to Him without any unction to act.  Have the ear of a friend to be there when He wants to talk.  Remember, He could start a conversation outside of your sanctuary, so have your ears tuned to eternity.
