A righteous man regards the life of his animal. Proverbs 12:10.

Bobby and I had two dogs when we moved to San Diego; Cabo and Bahia.  In 1990, Cabo was tragically killed by a rattlesnake. Since Bahia was our only dog after Cabo‘s death, Bobby took her everywhere.  Then tragedy struck, again.  He took her to a Price Club in San Marcos, where she was stolen out of the back of his truck.

It happened on a Monday, and we looked all week for her in the pouring rain.  We were heartbroken and searched the surrounding neighborhoods.  I canvassed vets with flyers, and everywhere that we could think of. These were the days before the internet and social media!

It rained the whole time. We kept getting leads from callers, but they never panned out.  Then one of our neighbors contacted us and told us that she was a pet psychic. Yep, she said she could see what Bahia was seeing.  And she saw a red railroad-car structure and also described the person who had her.  I don’t know if I really believed her but, she contacted us, so we went with it out of desperation.

During this trial, my mom came to stay and comfort us.  On Friday night of the same week Bahia was stolen, I felt we should pray all night.  So, the three of us, as we woke through the night, asked God to help us.

Saturday morning came and I planned to put flyers at more vet offices in the area.  Bobby went to help a neighbor next door that day.  Before I left to place the flyers, Bobby called.  He had found Bahia.  He and the neighbor found her walking with a man, the same man that the psychic described near a red railroad-car looking restaurant.

God had answered our prayers mightily and delivered Bahia back to us.  And Momma saw the miracle “with her own eyes”, which built her faith and belief that the LORD is real.

The LORD in His mercy stepped in and had our paths cross with the thief.  Bahia was home! Interesting that the psychic was correct in what she saw, but only God could arrange the circumstances to answer our prayers.

Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O Lord, You preserve man and beast. Psalm 36:6

Bahia lived another 12 years with us after she was stolen.  And when it came time to end her life I had great anguish. Her balance was off, and she would go in circles for hours.  Although her heart was strong, I couldn’t bring myself to put her down.  I needed guidance.  So I prayed fervently for the Lord to show me the answer.  He reminded me that He, God, gave all authority on earth to man.  Even over the animals.

Then, the LORD sent me the answer I sought, read it here: When God's Creatures Die.

My soul still remembers and sinks within me. This I recall to my mind; Therefore, I have hope. Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:20-23
