Recently my husband, Bobby, was sorting through old pictures. He came across a few pictures that tugged mightily on my heart strings. Why? Because the pictures were from when he became a believer in Jesus as his Savior at the ripe age of ten years old.
Now mind you, when I first met him, I knew he was the man I would marry but he never told me of his salvation. I later would ask why, and he told me because he didn’t think it ‘stuck’! I, too, fell away from the Lord through my college and young adult years. But rededicated my life to God later in life and something strangely miraculous occurred.
During the same summer when I rededicated my life to the Lord and the gifts started to manifest, Bobby also accepted Jesus as his Savior and was baptized. I had a crazy thought one night that perhaps I married the wrong man because he wasn’t a believer when we married! I did not mention this to Bobby.
The next day Bobby came home from work and said he had a funny recollection the previous night. He remembered that he accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was about 10 years old during a Bible youth camp his parents sent him to one summer! Ha, I married a believer.
The pictures Bobby found recently were from that youth camp experience in the mid 60's! Once he found the old photo of himself boarding a bus to Green Oaks Ranch, he did a little sleuthing. While searching on the Internet, Bobby found Green Oaks Ranch is still around. He found an old photo of the Ranch from around the same time that he was there. Then, he discovered the Ranch is located less than 15 miles from where we currently live!
It brought back the sweet remembrance that he accepted Jesus as his Savior so young. But more than that, the knowledge that God fights to keep us; He pursues us though our years to woo us back to Himself in order to fulfill our callings.
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29.
Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will. Ephesians 1:5.
It’s like God’s voice behind us saying go this way! I can see Bobby walking with Jesus behind him, following Bobby’s every step and then when he accepted Jesus as an adult, the Lord moved to the front of Bobby’s walk. So, now he follows God!
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21
A good man deals graciously and lends; he will guide his affairs with discretion. Surely, he will never be shaken; the righteous will be in everlasting remembrance. He will not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Psalm 112:5-7
Green Oak Ranch is located in Vista, CA and interestingly enough, Bobby being saved in Vista; our first house we bought was in Vista; and my great aunt Julia lived in Vista at one point!
A fun story I wanted to share with you showing the perseverance of Jesus to us through our lives.
