As I said in a previous post, we understand that ministry gifts, offices or ministries (all the same thing) are different than the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit and the offices are like the fingers on the Hand of God. The Body of Christ aka Christ’s church has to have all fingers working to create the grip of God. All are to work together in a body of believers to build unity and maturity in the Body. They are all necessary.
- Apostles initiate a special message to a group of people; to start a new work or church resulting in a new harvest.
- Prophets discern and declare the direction and intent of assigned ministry ground of Christ and help prepare the way for a new work or harvest.
- Evangelists gather in the harvest produced from the Apostles & Prophets, calling the nations to Christ.
- Miracles and Healings give supernatural authentication to the Evangelist’s ministry.
- Pastors deepen the harvest and broaden it through spiritual guidance, care and protection.
- Teachers affirm and correct the harvest through setting Biblical boundaries and encouraging future growth.
- Helps “lends a hand” to do the most mundane and disagreeable tasks to support other ministry callings and the Body of Christ.
- Government ties it all together with skills in organizing and accomplishing of God’s Kingdom goals to prepare for additional harvests.
For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. (Romans 12:4-8).
That puts a period to this series. And a final punctuation, so to speak, relating to the ministries of the Holy Spirit. My last posts on this subject will explore ‘The Calling’ to a ministry office. May the Lord bless and keep you. (Numbers 6:24).
