The Nine Gifts of the Spirit (Part IV)

As we look at the different spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:7-10, I am going to have a little fun with them.  I want to systematically list each gift noting what it is, why it is given and how it operates with examples. 

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

Now, here is the fun part, I am going to associate each gift with a color, similar to colorful gems!  The Lord gave me this idea to work in conjunction with Cindy’s vision of Him mixing colors of gifts into a pot recorded under Cindy’s Pot of Colors.

I’ve read that the gifts can be categorized into three pots: Revelation Gifts; Power Gifts and Utterance Gifts. 

• Revelation Gifts are Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge and Discerning of Spirits.
• Power Gifts are the Gift of Faith, Working of Miracles and the Gifts of Healings.
•  Utterance Gifts are Prophecy, Divers Kinds of Tongues and the Interpretation of Tongues.

A word of encouragement as we get started:

Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do?  Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?  

“Hear Me child, I am a God who has spoken to you from the beginning, I told you that I am working a new thing in you.  I have spoken, I will not take back a word, in this you can be sure, in this you can trust.  For God is not a man that He would lie.  And I have spoken truth to you.  In all your frailties, I have still chosen to bless you, in all your failures, I have still chosen to lift you up. 

Now, remember the gifts and calling are irrevocable and My word to you stands.  Use the gifts with faith, that is the key that opens the door of the gifts I have given.  You must ask and believe that I want to give you a blessing for another.  Say it is so, and it shall be done for you.  You have the mighty power of God to hear My voice…use wisely to love the brethren and call forth faith in others, obedience as well will follow.

The gifts cannot stay hidden.  You must now be called forth to advance My kingdom.  Is that not what I have promised to all who hear My voice and are obedient to obey?  Be without fear little one, be without fear.”

But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God”.  (John 3:21).

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.  (Romans 11:29).

Next week, I will begin with the Revelation gifts.  Between now and then, seek the Lord to prepare your heart to hear the Spirit’s voice and leadings.  I found this exhortation from Jonathan Cahn helpful.

“Zechariah says an amazing thing in Luke 1:76, ‘You, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High.’ The amazing thing is that he is talking to a baby, but this is not baby talk. He is saying you are going to be a prophet, a Navi in Hebrew, of El Elyon, the Most High. These are awesome, beautiful words to a baby. The baby cannot fathom what he is saying; yet he is going to grow into it.

So, it is with your calling. You cannot fathom the calling, the hope that God gives us. Yochanan was a little baby version of what he would be, John the Baptist. We are little baby versions of what we will become if we obey and grow. The baby cannot understand the calling, but you keep going, just obey. Yochanan, John the Baptist, obeyed God and as he obeyed, he fulfilled his calling. Those words came true. You have an awesome high holy calling on your life. You do not have to understand it or God's way. Just obey and you will become the fulfillment of the call on your life.”

Lastly, insight from my friend and Prophetess Wanda Rust: “The gifts are given from the same Spirit and as we grow, the gifts become our personality.  As in Isaiah 11:2, we are the branches, and He is the vine.  So, whatever flows into Him flows into us. The Spirit of Counsel, Might, etc. as we mature those become our ministry.  They are not just gifts; they are God’s makeup, and we have the DNA of Jesus.  The gifts become permanent in us as we mature.”
