In 2007, I was very unsettled at work, wanting to move on but not seeing a way out. I had a revelation of working for one of my customers, Goodrich Aerospace. I knew the company well and had helped drive their records management program since 1995. I thought this was my way out, so I intentionally dropped hints to my customer at Goodrich. He would laugh and say he couldn’t afford me. Finally, I gave up the hints and dropped the subject. I stayed on at Iron Mountain.
By 2008, Susan and Taunya had moved on. Susan moved to Tennessee and Taunya was working for the consulting division of Iron Mountain. They hired a new Manager of Account Services. As I had always done, I made known I was a Christian…it was never an obstacle before my new boss.
The new boss was brought in to get more out of us Account Managers. She was relentless with my work habits and hours; she was persecuting me. I spent endless hours in anguish praying for a resolution. The Lord gave many scriptures on deliverance of my enemies but by the end of 2009, I saw none come to pass.
Psalm 54:7 “I am in the midst of lions; I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts— men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.”
Psalm 64:7-8 “But God will shoot them with his arrows; they will suddenly be struck down. He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.”
After a bad review by the new boss and the VP (a former friend and prayer partner at IM), I was finished. I was going to take matters into my own hands. I walked to the restroom, cried and told God I was going to quit. I quickly heard His voice, “It’s about time.” What? I was waiting for Him to do something and apparently, He was waiting for me!
I received permission from my father-in-law Jaime and Bobby; I was going to give notice to quit by February 2010 on one condition…I had to tell IM why I was quitting (the new boss and her persecution).
I gave my notice and my reason; a firestorm erupted. Why didn’t I go to HR with my complaints they asked? If I stayed, they would get rid of the new boss. I stood my ground. I received a scripture address to leave: Matthew 6:24 “’No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.’”
After telling the staff of my departure, the Customer Service Manager gave me a prophecy upon hearing of my resignation. She said to me: “God has something better for you outside of this place;” I was floored.
I told my customers I was leaving, Goodrich, the largest, included. Steve at Goodrich was upset about my leaving; he asked what I was going to do. I told Steve I would like to work part-time and then he asked if I would work for him!
My revelation from 2007 was coming to pass. The new boss got wind that I was going to work for Goodrich and she tried to stop me through some weird ‘conflict of interest’ excuse to HR. They didn’t buy her scheme and I left IM.
… a door was opened to me by the Lord, 2 Corinthians 2:12b.
A few days before I was to start my part-time job at Goodrich a couple of God events happened. First, I was notified by the general manager at Iron Mountain that my former boss who persecuted me with the V.P. were both fired.
Not that I wish bad or evil on anyone, but God did perform the word that HE had spoken according to Psalm 64:7–8 But God will shoot them with his arrows; they will suddenly be struck down. He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
The day after the firing, the Oil in the Closet Miracle transpired. I believe the Lord was confirming I made the right decision to leave and He established it was time for me to move on from full time work for pay. Step by step, a new road ahead was being laid for me. He can do the same for you.
I will go before you and make the crooked places straight… Isaiah 45:2.
